Charitable Donations

MISSION STATEMENT

The command of the IOOF is to “visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead and educate the orphan.”  The mission of the charitable donation committee of Excelsior Lodge No. 1 is to offer financial support to no-profit organizations, domiciled in the State of Hawaii that provide services for those in need.  Specifically, IOOF today is dedicated to the following purpose: to improve and elevate the character of mankind by promoting the principles of friendship, love, truth, faith, hope, charity and universal justice.

 

COMMITTEE GUIDELINES

  • Noble Grand of Excelsior Lodge No. 1 will appoint a committee chairperson
  • The committee is comprised of a chairperson and no less than two other committee members
  • The committee must establish a working budget for the current year
  • The committee must meet no less than once per quarter to review, analyze and determine the recipient(s) and amount of the award
  • The committee will establish and manage a diversified list of potential non-profit organizations
  • All request will be reviewed by the Committee and a notification letter sent to the organization whether or not approved
  • The committee will not guarantee an award on an ongoing basis

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • All potential recipients must submit a copy of your organization’s letter from the Internal Revenue Service granting it tax-exempt status
  • All funds are awarded as unrestricted
  • The Committee will prioritize the need and importance of the program based on the command of the IOOF
  • All requests are based on a calendar year

 

PROCEDURES FOR REQUESTING DONATIONS

  • Obtain a request form from the committee chairperson
  • Upon committee approval the committee will present its recommendations to the general membership for its approval
  • Final awards will be made in November
  • Do not submit an application if you’ve received an award from the IOOF Charitable Donation committee in the previous cycle
